Sorry for the delay in our response. 

Android has at least two flavors of Bluetooth one for tablets one for mobile phones.   We are about 90% sure that the Nexus 7 tablet has the flavor of the Bluetooth stack that does not support xevent (It lacks HFP/HSP support).

Public API for controlling the Bluetooth Headset Service. This includes both Bluetooth Headset and Handsfree (v1.5) profiles.

Hope this helps a bit and we are still doing some research around this.  If we find anything further, we will post here.
