To answer your questions,

1. I do not have first hand experience in you r use case, Your objective does seem possible and reasonable, but it also depends on the analog landline device you are attaching to. You can only be sure after testing the setup.
2. We just released SDK 3.0 and both SDK 2.0 and 3.0 supports this device. I recommend you go with the latest SDK to get the best support for your work.
3. Don't worry about the firmware level. Plantronics devices firmware are field upgradable.
4. Devices with the M designation means it can work with Microsoft communications software out of the box without Spokes. Since you want to work with the SDK, you need to run Spokes regardless of the designation.
